Sure, romantic comedies and musicals have a skewed sense of reality, and the time period pretty much forced romances to end with the prospect of marriage, but these take it to the extreme. It works okay when I'm actually watching the film, but once it's over and I think back on the plot, it really stands out.
With these movies we have to forget the plot and just enjoy the dances, songs and the magic that the interaction between the characters create. They are designed to forget all, worries, sadness..., for two hours and put a warm feeling in your chest while watching it and yes, when they finish, you ask yourself... and the rest? And all the questions unanswered...? That's why I love read fics like yours, you put a plausible end to a movie that needed it.
