Oh, fanTAStic! Thank you! I think the Star Trek one in particular is going to work very well. I like "Handlebars" as well, but I have a feeling it would fly over the heads of most of my students--few people over here have heard of Doctor Who, even New Who.
I aodre charmax's vids--they make the part of me that geekgasms at perfectly timed clips really happy--though I think instead of "Unnatural Selection" I might use "Seven Nation Army," if only because with more fandoms, it goes even further into a consciously constructed reality. (Plus we're watching I, Robot later in the semester, so that's nice to have.)
I really like the idea of "Jack," but as I've never seen the show, I don't think I'll be able to use it/talk much about if I show it in class, so it'll probably go on my list of "pick one to watch before this class," and those who know the show can watch it and discuss it on the discussion board for that day.
