Grrrr argh post-structuralism/pomo. The whole "everything is a signifier without any signifieds" does tend to make me want to punch someone. Some parts of the larger body of theory work for me, but that part drives me batshit. (BTW, if you haven't read A.S. Byatt's Possession you totally, totally should. She has a fantastic refutation of that part interwoven into the plot. Also of psychoanalytic criticism, which made me cheer a whole lot. Sometimes it is in fact just an irregularly-shaped pool with some moss around it!)
