Howl's Moving Castle, and everything else by Diana Wynne Jones, was a huge part of my childhood. When you're done reading the three Howl books, you should definitely read the Chrestomanci books, which are fantastic (in both senses of the word).
And also be sure to read Archer's Goon, which is an odd little stand-alone book that is inexplicably awesome.
Oh! And also read Deep Secret. It's a fantasy novel, set in the modern world (mostly), and the entire second half of the book is set at a sci-fi/fantasy convention. If you've ever been to a convention, you'll get a kick out of seeing what happens when you unleash actual wizards into one.
