I was never thrilled with Gina's reappearance, but I thought she had the potential to shed light on Castle's character and perhaps help him grow up a bit, and I am unthrilled that they wrote her off without using the relationship to give us more than a modicum of insight into his character.
Yeah, that's a good point. I kind of took it incredibly literally - meaning, not only are they a magical crime-fighting, mind-reading team of Awesome, but Beckett also Knows Magic! - which is something he never had and never could have had with Gina. Because the notion of magic (in the sense of the spark/chemistry/whatever of a new love) being there forever, uhh, doesn't make sense.
