He was relying on her to do the right thing which she did in the end by going back and leaving the money on the counter. She caved into peer pressure which, speaking from experience, is a very powerful thing. My opinion is that she will realize on her own that if these "friends" are not really friends at all if they continue to demand stuff like this of her.
