Heh. Our roses have been in bloom for almost three weeks now. These are tea roses, which bloom in April or May no matter where they're planted, though*; perhaps you just have a different varieties up where you are. My mom doesn't have any of the later-blooming species of rose at the moment, but they grow down here too.
* They only grow in zones 6a and up, but I just checked, and where Nashville is 6b, Seattle is actually considered 7a.
