I can just see Walter growing miniature dinosaurs. Like hamsters, only they'll rip your flesh off!

Seriously. I mean, he doesn't just appear to be vaguely evil in a bit part. He's got to be specifically and evilly evil in a big part. It's expected.
Yeah, I missed it when I watched. But didn't somebody mention "powdered water" at one point? Was it one of Bell's weird projects?
I wouldn't be surprised if someone did mention it.
