I actually agree with you about the soulmate thing...I think that's an Unusual Fandom (or RL) Opinion.

Maybe I just hang out with a bunch of cynics, but I don't think I've met anyone in RL or fandom, at least with whom I've discussed it, that actually believes in the concept. Though some do get into fictional representations of it.

I can't remember if I've ever been in a fandom as male-character-skewed as Silmarillion. I'm thinking no; probably dS comes the closest.
