I get the impression that HG for the most part didn't mind her brother getting the credit, but sometimes his soaking up the platitudes just got on her very last nerve. Especially as I got the impression that HG was a bit into that one girl who was all into HG's brother. So possibly a bit of jealousy there.
They are so building up to a redemption arc. They have to be. They did so much work to show how much HG regrets everything in this episode and how much she's changed. And everybody misses her! There is going to be redemption. I know it.
I like to interpret Pete as the person who watched their BFF get utterly crushed by their SO and as such will be the hardest sell that the SO isn't a complete jerk anymore. With added attempted world destroying and abandonment issues. It's not entirely rational, he knows it's not entirely rational, but he's terrified of Myka being hurt like that again and thus will do all sorts of thing to protect her from that, even if she says he doesn't need to, because that's what BFFs do.
