I've found they do get better as I feed them more ratings.
Oddly, I found that they got better and better until they hit a certain point (~350ish), at which point they got worse. It was like they'd recommended everything I would actually like, and then just throwing things up to see if they'd stick.
I feel like it might be me rather than them, though, because for all that I get very invested in particular media, my tastes are very specific. Also, a lot of what I like depends on coming to it at just the right time; if I'm in the mood for sci-fi humor, even the most amazing angsty drama isn't going to do much for me at that moment.
(And thus endeth Body of Proof.)
Of course, that one should probably just be dropped whether you have time for it or not... (Although this week we do get to meet Peter's sisters. I have to admit I'm looking forward to that.)
I hope Ford's paying them a boatload for all that loving product placement.
