I skipped Castle tonight in order to watch the second half of the W13 finale, and was not disappointed. Especially since ABC, unlike some other networks I could name *coughcoughFOXcough* is still putting its programs up online the day after airing.

Spoilers ho!

I have to admit, that all went down about the way I expected, with one exception: I never thought they'd kill Steve. Awww, Jinksy. I wasn't too sure about you at first, but you turned out all right. And I loved your relationship with Claudia. :(

Figured from a long time ago that Steve was working a double agent angle, and I'm so glad he got to tell Claudia. Even though he died soon after. Poor, poor Claudia. (Yeah, I don't see her getting to use that metronome for him next season. Besides, Steve would probably not want to be a zombie.)

H.G. as an American schoolteacher was kind of hilarious. As was the real H.G.'s reaction to the fact that she'd been transformed into a cat lady. Bwahaha!

But more importantly, OMG THERE WAS SO MUCH MYKA/HELENA FEMSLASH. I HAVE TO CAPSLOCK FOR JUST A MOMENT. H.G. thinks Myka is the person who knows her best! (OMG, show, why didn't we see more of them bonding at Leena's or something whyyyyyyyyy.) Myka talking H.G. down during the chess match from hell! Sykes putting Myka in the chair in the first place because she's someone H.G. cares about! "Wells and Bering, solving puzzles together again." / "You mean Bering and Wells." SO MUCH LOVE! Although I think they forgot to show exactly how they opened the portal and came to the rescue. But hey, they came to the rescue! And meanwhile, Mrs. Frederick rescued Leena, Claudia rescued both of them, Jane helped Myka and HG rescue everyone else from Sykes, and basically I think this was the most concentrated batch of girl power I have ever seen. Other shows, PLZ TO BE TAKING NOTES.

I figured they probably wouldn't kill off HG in the first hour, so I was largely okay with Pete nearly crushing the Janus coin with a rock, but it did give me the fear, which turned out to be well-founded, that HG would sacrifice herself for real later in the episode. (More on that later!) I was less thrilled with her melodrama about how at least Emily Lake would have a good life, and the last thing she wanted to see was the sky and blah blah blah, not because I didn't think she could be noble--I was, in fact, counting on a redemption arc--but because something about the dialogue was so different from how H.G. usually speaks that I immediately started wondering if she was trying to double-cross them again. So, yeah. That didn't really work for me, but at least there was Myka saying they couldn't possibly kill her, and then INTENSE GAZING.

Speaking of GAZING, the end, OMG. Not only was there gazing, there was the sound filtering out and the whole world narrowing down to the two of them and bwahaha, thank you production peeps for letting them have all the cinematic trappings of Epic Romance. Even though H.G. was about to die, I was very pleased with that minute or so.

For a while, I was seriously horrified that they were actually going to kill off H.G., but then I came to my senses and realized they probably wouldn't do that if they want to drum up interest in her spin-off. Plus the Warehouse actually going up in flames, not to mention Mrs. Frederick dying without giving the caretaker position over to Claudia, suggested that something was going to be able to fix it. This show, fun as it is, is just not the kind of show that blows up its entire premise like that. Artie pulling out the watch-that-will-surely-allow-time-travel was almost superfluous, though I'm glad they did it. (Perhaps especially because I didn't see the dog anywhere, and that adorable dog is not allowed to die!)

Still, the effects in that scene were sure pretty.

(Oh oh oh, also, Myka and H.G, getting tied up together for no discernible plot-related reason: total fanservice. And I appreciated every minute of it.)

Predictions for next season: We get the Warehouse back! H.G. lives! In reality, H.G. probably goes on probation or back to prison or something because Jaime Murray will be working on the spin-off, but in my head, she gets the major counseling she needed after S2, gets re-instated as an agent, and she and Myka start sharing a room at Leena's.

More Fringe stuff, because I seem to be getting more fannish about it than ever:

*sporfle* Fringe credits, Friends-style.

Speaking of Fringe vids, I have the urge to make an Olivia/Peter vid to Hem's "In a Barrel at Sea." Although I feel like it might work better with footage from when we finally get Peter back, whenever that may be...probably around the time I finally get together enough footage to make a vid at all.
