The thing from the season premiere where he got that letter that said no further harm would come to Beckett if she stopped investigating her shooting and her mom's case, and he didn't inform her of this because he figured it would make her investigate with renewed vigor. I could almost chalk that up to being very misguided, but ultimately sweet, if it didn't mean that Beckett lives with the fear of being shot every day because he won't tell her she's currently out of danger, and that's outright cruel.
