I feel like they had to tell Steve eventually, if only to explain why he lost a day if nothing else. But possibly not until they got back to Leena's so she could be all calm and have cookies.

Yeah, this is probably what happened. Although it doesn't preclude him thinking they're irresponsible and joining up with Southern Sally for the good of the nation... (I actually don't want him to be swayed to the side of evil, but I know it's what I'd think about if I were in his position.)

I'm hoping it's a lampshade on that particular cliche.
