....Oh, yeah, this is totally my crack.

Elizabeth is a little over the top "FOR THE MOTHERLAND!", but that's forgivable in a pilot, especially when that pilot has so many other excellent qualities. Like a marriage of convenience where one of them is making noises about how it doesn't have to be just for convenience, maybe there could be feelings, y/y? O HAI, BULLETPROOF NARRATIVE KINK.

Also my crack: Philip's crisis of faith, and the inkling at the end of the pilot that Elizabeth may be joining him (but maybe not). And I like how the show seems intent on interleaving moments where they're a totally normal family dealing with normal family things ("Wasn't she wearing a sweater with a bunny on it to dinner last week?") with all the spy action and crisis-of-faithing.

I am a shameless fan of synth-heavy 80s music, and they used it well here. Yeah, this is going to be fun.

Admittedly, the first few seasons of Burn Notice excepted, spies are really not my thing, but you can't really tell this story without spies, so I'm going to go along for the ride.

On top of all this, for Reasons, I may be in just the right headspace to appreciate an 80s-era Soviet-related story.
