We had a skating club party/free ice time today. It was more for playing around than for serious practice--the kids in particular were having spinning contests, racing each other, and playing some kind of sliding game--so I spent a good chunk of time chatting with the other adults, which was fun. I also did some stuff.

I think I am...back to where I had my two foot spin before C tried to redo my entire technique. I dunno, it probably would've worked had we continued with it, but obviously that didn't get to happen, so I'm just going to do it the way it feels comfortable until P starts teaching me different. It does feel more stable now, which is perhaps the influence of the four different techniques I've been taught. Possibly it also has to do with P getting me to try keeping my arms out longer instead of bringing them in immediately because UGH GOING TOO FAST INITIATE FETAL POSITION, so I actually managed to experience that spinning top sensation of going faster as I brought my arms in. That was pretty cool. I'm up to four revolutions now, I think.

I also rediscovered that if I don't think too hard about forward outside three turns, they go much better. Well, actually, I can think about them, I just can't twist too much to prepare. When I refrain from over-twisting, I have a lovely, well-checked exit edge. Rather, I don't need to check so hard to get an edge that doesn't curve too tightly, and since I can't check very hard... My problem with this method is that if I go more than a few feet before turning, I can't hep but twist too much. This is problematic for placing each part of the Waltz 8 correctly. (Waltz 8! Why wont you go awaaaaaaay...) I need to figure out how to unlink "going more than five feet" and "twist twist twist" in my brain. Maybe if I untwist right before I turn? Hmmm.

Finally, forward changes of edge are apparently one of those skills that improve with benign neglect. As in, I can actually go from a forward outside to a forward inside edge on one foot now. I can even follow it with a mohawk. I can't do either of these things with much speed, like I need to for the test, but at least I can do them. Progress!
