McMurphy and Richard were very "parents fighting in front of the children" in this one, weren't they? I was kind of glad when she slapped him. They did manage to make Richard exceptionally sympathetic while at the same time making him very, very worthy of being slapped, though. Poor guy. Poor guy acting totally inappropriately, but man.

Is McMurphy interested in Bernard purely because he's pretty? Because otherwise I really don't see it. He was a jerk to her in the first episode! In this one he broke his word that he was going to come visit her on the ward, so the pattern of jerkiness continues! Then again, I suppose that could describe Richard rather well too, and the PTB ultimately made him sympathetic, so perhaps the same will happen here. If Bernard's going to hang around for most of the season, I hope that happens, or I'm just going to be annoyed for long time.

(I'm going to be yelling "McMurphy, dump his ass!" a lot this season, aren't I?)

Not much to say about the other two episodes on this disk, but I did get a kick out of the three guys and no girls cooing over the baby in "Dear China Beach." Also from McMurphy vs. Holly. "I know how to do it, I was a Brownie!" (P.S. Ricki Lake? Like, the Ricki Lake of talk show fame? Wow. I never knew she was an actress.)

Sarge Pepper is...well. He's certainly a character. I really enjoy Frankie's just-this-side-of-fed-up interactions with him, though. Heh. Too bad it'll do nothing to change his attitude about minorities and women as a whole, just about her in particular.
