I got my second COVID shot on January 15. It was...an experience. The lymph node in my armpit swelled to the size of a tennis ball, I felt like crap for two days, and then I developed a rash all down my arm. If "waking up from abdominal surgery to find demerol doesn't work for me and promptly passing out" was a 10 on the pain scale, the post-shot arm/shoulder pain was a 6 for several days. But presumably all of that means it worked really well, my immune system is even more amped up than usual, and I'm free from COVID risk for at least a year!

I went back to the rink for the first time in just under a year two weeks after that, and quickly discovered that those hip/butt exercises I'd left by the wayside as we worked very overtime on writing the renewal of the grant that employs me and 300 of my closest friends were vital to skating. As in, I couldn't do much, and what I could do caused searing back pain.

I took myself off the ice for three weeks for intensive rehab. Then we had a massive ice/snow storm and I was off another week. (Thankfully, Nashville gets electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority rather than a bunch of profit-mongers who refuse to winterize their equipment like Texas, so I had heat all the way through said storm.) I'm hoping to try again early next week. I don't expect miracles, but hopefully the exercises fixed up my gluteus mediae enough that getting on an outside edge isn't such a struggle, and I just have to deal with the reactivation of my lizard brain's response to standing on one foot and leaning away from my center of mass. (To wit: "ARE YOU CRAZY? STOP THIS RIGHT NOW!")

I forgot to cancel my Disney+ subscription after getting it for a month to watch Hamilton, so I watched WandaVision this weekend. When I was in fifth grade or so, I lived for Nick at Nite, so I was super intrigued by the premise. I have zero knowledge of the Marvel universe aside from Agent Carter.

It's a cute show! Pros:
- Monica, Darcy, and Jimmy. I like them together and apart; they all bring something good to the table. Monica's a driven badass, Jimmy's adorably earnest, and Darcy's funny. I've heard a rumor of a neo-X-Files being pitched starring Jimmy and Darcy, and I am THERE FOR IT. That would be the perfect vehicle for them! Especially if it was more of a dramedy. Universe, make this happen!

- I am absolutely shipping Jimmy/Darcy. They're adorable in what limited screen time they've had together, what can I say? I might even be turning over some fic ideas...

- Wanda and Vision are fine. I don't have the context to really appreciate their Great and True Love, I guess, but I've enjoyed their scenes together. Vision waking up to the weirdness and Wanda trying to hold it together was good. Does Paul Bettany have a portrait in an attic somewhere doing his aging for him? 'Cause he may be in his fifties now, but he really doesn't look that different from A Knight's Tale. It certainly makes the 20-year age difference between him and Elizabeth Olsen go down easier.

- The different eras of sitcom are well-done. I especially appreciate that the set designers redid the entire house for each episode, and the theme song/opening credits are amazing. (Also catchy. Sooooooo catchy.)

- IT WAS AGATHA AFTER ALL! I don't know a damn thing about Agatha Harkness, but I'm glad they're giving Kathryn Hahn more to do. (And her own theme song!)

Cons:
- Unlike with Agent Carter, my lack of Marvel knowledge is hampering my enjoyment. I haven't outright missed any key plot points, but I constantly feel like there are layers I don't get with every shot that lingers a bit too long on someone or something, every significant pause after a name or reference in a line of dialogue, etc. It's getting annoying.

- The fact that Darcy is an astrophysicist does not automatically mean she is also a geneticist, engineer, and whiz hacker. Ugh. But I guess this is hardly the first show to make their scientist character a jack of all (science) trades.

Ooh, wow, that's quite an immune system reaction to the vaccine! I have a fever today (2nd day after getting round 2); also, a sore arm and quite the headache/stiff neck feeling.

WandaVision is fun. I was talking to a friend about how much fun the costume and set designers must be having, not to mention the music team.

I knew about Agnes = Agatha Harkness. Or rather, I had seen someone speculating that it was a possibility, given that Agatha Harkness is in the comics. Even so, I shrieked out loud and laughed for a solid minute at the reveal.

I did end up with a fever and a sore spine/base of neck. Very tired overall. But still not that bad, and certainly preferable to other options!

Phew, what a second shot reaction! A swollen lymph node of that size sounds especially Not Fun.

Just got my second shot today - waiting to see how dramatic my immune system decides to be.

Glad to hear you're hopefully getting back to skating! I often forget to comment, but I find your skating posts fascinating. :D
