So I finished The Silmarillion last night(!!!) feeling vaguely like I had just run a marathon. The version I got from the library may have only been 304 pages, but believe me, each one of them feels like much, much longer. And while it was one giant excercise in why "show, don't tell" is Really Good Advice, it was good to get the background to LOTR. (Because the trilogy wasn't long enough, yo. ;)) Although if they ever make a miniseries out of this, like some people have suggested would be good, they so need to cut out about half the characters, a good bunch of the events, and actually give the characters personalities. (Although they should totally keep in Turin Turambar, Middle-earth's resident serial killer, just for laughs. ;)) Yeah, I know, it's supposed to be a history or whatever. Still.

Never, ever thought I'd ever become this much of a Tolkien geek. Although I'm not heading for the highest level of geekdom, 'cause there's no way you're gonna get me to read the History of Middle-Earth deal. Uh-uh.
