Evolution Part 2
Jan. 9th, 2004 09:12 pm- I feel vaguely like we've teleported into the season finale for JAG last May. Mmmm, rainforest. Crappy Central American kidnappers. Eh.
- Yay S/J-ish sorta moment in the lab!
- *snort* Go Siler!
- I'm reminded of how much I hate S7 Sam hair. Although it improved considerably after her first trip through the airlock to get Jacob. Still, it's way too fluffy.
- Anubis looks like a Ringwraith. Just sayin'.
- Hmmm...I'm getting Mordor/orc army flashbacks with the scene in Anubis' big chamber. Anubis-as-Ringwraith is not helping with this, nor is the quite good visual of his base camp or whatever it was that remindedme vaguely of the sweeping visuals in ROTK. (Or I could just be a Tolkien geek.)
- Ouch! Poor Sam.
- Woo-hoo! Go Bra'tac! Gotta love the transporter rings.
- I dunno if it's different lighting, the better hair, or what, but Sam/AT looks much better in this ep than in the rest of the season--less gaunt, fewer shadows in her face, etc. Her face looks fuller than it has this season.
Ho-hum. Didn't really get into this episode, if you couldn't tell. I prefer ones where the team isn't split up for the whole ep, although Jacob is always fun. Plus I'm still pretty "meh" on the whole supersoldier idea, although this "no free will" bit has the potential to get interesting.

Date: 2004-01-11 07:56 pm (UTC)Well I have to admit that, better effects aside, The Phantom Menace was certainly nothing to write home about, but A New Hope was absolutely classic! And The Empire Strikes Back was brilliant, because the bad guys kinda win. Return of the Jedi, while pretty crappy on the whole Ewok business, no self respecting Imperial Commander would ever lose to a bunch of teddy bears, was good as well.
It's interesting though, as I've heard it said that The Matrix is the Star Wars for the current generation. The characters and mythology of Star Wars is so ingrgained in my generation, and The Matrix is doing something similar for yours. True or not I don't know, but it is an interesting thought.
And Star Wars did the huge parades in front of the Emperor over 15 years before PJ did it in TTT, just as a comment.

I wanted to like SW, but it just didn't happen. It was just...meh.

*shrug* Wouldn't know, as I barely remember the first Matrix movie and I wasn't interested enough to see the others. *watches Robert throw up his hands in frustration* Yeah, I'm hopeless when it comes to pop culture. ;)
It is an interesting thought, though. Also not sure about the validity of it, given that I don't think the second and third movies were as popular--or at least the buzz wasn't as much, as far as I could tell. I suppose we'll just have to wait twenty years and see if anyone remembers them. :)

*tries to remember TTT* Hey, it wouldn't surprise me. Just 'cause I don't like SW doesn't mean I can't accept that lots of people make homages to it. ;)

*as not talking, raises palms upwards and shrugs*

*wants to make comment about not paying homage, but then decides it's not worth the effort*

Note - that did not involve talking.
Suuuuure. But did the note involve talking? ;)

Would your comment be something along the lines of "it's not an homage, it's stealing"? ;)

Date: 2004-01-09 10:36 pm (UTC)So very glad I wasn't the only one. I even commented on the car battery torture of Daniel and how he seemed to come out of it better then poor Webb did in my own ramblings. :) But still, owwie.
