Goethe quotes
Feb. 3rd, 2004 07:26 pmI think I might start maintaining a running quote file in here from the stuff I read this year. Might be fun.
From Goethe's Faust (Part 1, lines 1092-9), translated by Stuart Atkins:
"Yet in us all there is an innate urge
to rise aloft and soar along
when, lost int eh blue space above us,
the lark pours forth its vibrant song,
when high above fir-covered crags
the eagle floats on outspread wing,
and when above the plains and lakes
the crane seeks out its native place."
