Went to the Summer Jobs & Internships session the Career Development Center did yesterday. Looked online. Um, yeah. Not so much on things relating to anything I'm interested in doing for a career later (writing/editing/graphic design/print layout/web stuff) in Nashville. The CDC director said I should use this site we have access to to look up various companies in Nashville in fields I'd like to explore, then e-mail them and make connections that might eventually turn into an internship/job somewhere. So I did that, and good LORD are there a ton of ad agencies in Nashville. I mean, really. Yeesh. Which would be great if I had any clue about anything relating to advertising...I mean, I assume it probably involves the use of Photoshop at some point, but that's it. (If I knew any more about it, I'd know whether I'd feel it's worth it to bother these people at all...)

But yeah. There's several unpaid, 5-10 hours/week internships at a webmag that look interesting, since you can go the editing, writing, or graphic design routes, and of course it's all online, so you can do it from anywhere. Also on the unpaid side of things, I could probably apply to be a volunteer at one of the historic houses in/near Nashville, or possibly at the Frist Center. I could go in for working on historical exhibitions as a living--putting them together, writing the little blurbs beside them, etc. Of course, that would probably mean a masters in history eventually... (Hey, it would satisfy my desire to be a double major without being a double major at the moment!)

Anyway. On the money side of things, I think I may end up applying for a job at the public library, assuming they start accepting applications again at any point in the near future. Yeah, it's shelving books, but it's shelving books for eight or nine bucks an hour, which is fine with me.
