So I was noodling around online and ran into this site about American/British English differences. It has more than your standard color/colour and zee/zed differences that you see on all these types of sites, including some I didn't know were correct across that ocean. (I wondered why spellcheck always yells at me for "judgement" even though it looks right! And why I could never spell "medieval/mediaeval" right as a child! ...Yeah, I read more BritLit as a kid than I did American stuff, I think. I can spell fine, except when the words are different outside of the US.) However, putting any kind of punctuation mark except for a semicolon or a colon outside of quotation marks will always give me the heebie-jeebies. That's one stylistic convention I definitely have never adopted.

But anyway, I had always thought most Stargate fic writers had some weird hangup about the term for Daniel's rocks. Lo and behold, "artefact," not "artifact," is the correct spelling outside of the US.

Oops.

Writing papers next year is going to be interesting...

You're my hero.

No, really. Very cool, very informative, very much appreciated. And I was dreading having to search around for stuff on Britspeak. Not that I was planning it. Oh, no. For I shall resist the pull of HP.

Goddamn you enablers.

Part of your (shockingly late) birthday present is something that I thought might help you out at Exeter. Hehe. You'll like it, it's informative and very, very funny. =)
