Ah, the toys.
Jul. 26th, 2004 08:11 pmWent to Target this evening. Meandered down one aisle of the toy section that was, apparently, dedicated to my childhood--all in one place were assembled Care Bears, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and even Polly Pocket. It was amazing, I tell you. Add in some Popples and a few baby dolls and you have my entire life from ages 1 to 9. And they're actually making the Ponies out of the same type of molds they did in the 80s, instead of those odd elongated things they had a few years ago. I was sorely tempted by the $4.99 beanie Care Bear, but decided that probably I don't need yet another stuffed animal to take up residence on either the top of my bookcase or my bed.

Date: 2004-07-27 02:55 am (UTC)They're making classic-looking My Little Ponies again? These people should know better than to tempt my not-so-rich self with items of childhood nostalgia like this.
I still have my ponies, a few care bears, and a popple. Am never getting rid of those.

They are indeed. None of the original ponies--there's a whole bunch of new designs on their hips--but they look like they're from the same molds. And they're only $4.99 at Target... ;)

I had about fifty ponies and a gazillion accessories, but my parents gave them to Goodwill when I was in middle school. It was so sad. :(

Date: 2004-07-29 04:17 am (UTC)I can probably resist the ones at Target. There are still some originals I'd like to add to my collection, after all. My favorite in the bunch is still Apple Jack, but I need to get a Firefly and a few others.
Aww, Goodwill? That's so sad. Luckily we kept almost everything (we're all such packrats).

My favorite was Lickety-Split, the original Teen Rebel Pony. ;) I also liked/had a bunch of the babies...and Gusty was cool...and I always liked the really cynical and depressing one, too, whatever her name was.

Yeah--they got rid of everything. The ponies, all my little Fisher Price people, my Littlest Pet Shop stuff, the Quints stuff, various Barbie things (wasn't too sad to see them go), the million and one other kinds of horses I had, all my dolls...

Date: 2004-08-01 06:13 am (UTC)Heh. I remember Lickety-Split from the second movie, and boy, she was a brat *g* Even though she was a bit of an airhead, I was rather fond of Fizzy, too. And the one who skated...dash it, what was her name. Not sure about the cynical one, as I don't know if I remember that at all. Hmm.

*mourns for the lost toys* I still have all my Little People, no way am I getting rid of those. We had all the nifty sets - the barn, the castle, several houses, etc. We fought over that castle set *g*

Yeah, the skating one was cool! The cynical one had a stormcloud on her hip, I think...maybe it was Stormy? She was always mopey, and saying that none of their plans would ever work. (She might've only been on the TV series, but I think she was in the movies, too.)

Ooooh...I had the city block set with the carwash and firehouse and stuff. But now it's all gone. *sigh*

Bowtie! That's the one with the skates. Whew. Don't remember Stormy, but it's been quite a while since I've seen either the movies or the show ;)

Oh yeah, I think we may have that one somewhere in the basement. I should get all those toys together and make sure they're still intact. I certainly won't mind that particular trip through childhood :)
