Like a soap opera, but with more sequins
Jul. 28th, 2004 06:05 pmRumor has it (at least at SkateFans by way of Figure Skating Universe) that Peter Tchernyshev has found a new partner. Guess who it is. Go on, guess.
Give up?
He's (again, according to fairly substantial rumor but not technically confirmed yet) skating with Shae-Lynn Bourne.
I cannot tell you how amused I am by this. It's like...it's just...I mean, he's all Russian and intense and so! passionate! and! dramatik!, while she was moonwalking on skates to a Michael Jackson medly at the last Olympics. I mean, y'know. It's like Hello Kitty goes to the Bolshoi.
Not to mention that it crushes all my dreams for Chicago on Ice, staring Shae-Lynn as Roxie and Marina Anissina as Velma. Although Marina's already back skating with Gwendal, at least in Europe and Japan (and with any luck, they might get included on COI next year), so I guess that wasn't really feasible. Woulda been fun, though.
In other skating news, there's a campaign on to get Tanith Belbin expedited citizenship so that a US dance team has a chance of placing in the top ten at the 2006 Olympics. Especially as Belbin and Agosto train in Detroit, I'm curious as to where Punsalan and Swallow are this time around... [/allusion that even
spockette probably won't get]
I watch so little of this sport anymore, but it can still be entirely too funny.

Date: 2004-07-29 05:03 pm (UTC)can you call figure skating a fandom??
I'd say so. People just go skating instead of writing fic. ;)
I'm so out of the loop. ;_;
I'm trying to get back into the loop. Still sickened by the Code of Points scoring happening now, but cool things are going on. The first American ladies triple axel since Tonya Harding was landed by a little fifteen-year-old who just moved up from juniors at a big club meet this month. She isn't even age-eligible to go to Worlds until next year...

Date: 2004-07-29 10:32 pm (UTC)I hope they hold off on going as crazy with the ladies' technical stuff as with the mens' (pipe dream, I know, given how the COP rewards technical difficulty now *sigh*), since there are so many injuries anymore. (Also, there are two Japanese girls and a Russian girl who've done triple axels for a couple years...they're in the top ten, but don't medal because their presentation is generally considered subpar.)
is there a place online to download past competitions?
I don't know of one, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.
