*plots to eliminate all ragweed*
Aug. 24th, 2004 10:12 pmSo I had my first-ever emergency room visit tonight. I went out to walk the dogs, and not too long after I came back, my eyeball started swelling up, getting all red, etc. etc., and as time passed, I ended up with little hives all around my eyes. Apparently the eyeball-swelling is common in allergic reactions, but, none of us knowing that and fearing that my eye would, I dunno, explode or something, I got whisked off to the hospital. It did look freaky. Fortunately, I managed not to scratch my cornea, but the test the nurse practicioner did to see if I had has left my good eye feeling all painful now. Sigh.
But I got interesting antihistamine eyedrops for if this ever happens again. Which hopefully it won't, because while I get hay fever like nobody's business (friggin' ragweed), and I do seem to remember having little hives around my eyes once in a while, I've never had a reaction this bad. And it's not even officially ragweed season yet!
Bleh.

Date: 2004-08-25 06:23 pm (UTC)Benadryl is the awesomest thing ever. It helps with allergies, can help antiemetics work better, prevents/treats dystonic reactions and can be used a temporary sleep aid. Sorry, I just love that stuff. It's helped me out of many a problem.

Date: 2004-08-25 08:04 pm (UTC)I took Benadryl a few times as a kid for allergies, but everyone in my family hated it as it made me hyper, not sleepy. Yeah, weird kid. But I think it probably works better if taken after an attack than the 24-hour Claratin stuff does, so I'm gonna get some. Maybe get some in England, too, if they have ragweed over there...
