icepixie: (October twilight)

I finally got my hands on a library copy of Irresistible Forces, which, as any good Bujoldite knows, contains the much-anticipated "Winterfair Gifts."

Wheeee! LMB rocks my world, especially since we got a good bit of Cordelia and Aral in this one (compared to almost none in Diplomatic Immunity). Although I'd still love to see a story about Aral and Cordelia's wedding... (I am right in thinking that we never saw it in SoH or Barrayar, and it's not just my memory being swiss cheesy, right?) Anyway, I loved seeing, or at least hearing from, just about everyone from the past, and I also loved how this one kept a lot of the mood of ACC while also being sort of sentimental--but the good kind of sentimental, not the kind that makes you want to bludgeon yourself with a blunt object. I actually felt that if LMB had wanted to end the series (horror!) there, it would've been fine--it would've come full circle, sort of, for a number of reasons: SoH being about Cordelia and Aral's journey to marriage and parenthood, and this (and ACC) being about Miles and Ekaterin's; plus the story being told from somewhat of an outsider's perspective in Armsman Roic, still something of a stranger to Vor life, like a sort of muted version of how SoH and B, being from Cordelia's POV, had an outsider's perspective on Barrayar itself, including the Vor stuff.

And I need to stop attempting literature interpretation late at night.

Anyway. Yay Vorkosigans! (And, dude, when Cordelia whispered something to Aral about the rabbit ice sculpture and he burst out laughing? Who wants to bet it was "Rule Nine, sir"? *eg* [/Barrayar geeking])
