A night of tricks and treats
Nov. 1st, 2003 01:27 amUs Pezzers managed to have ourselves a good time this Halloween night. We started off with a trip into Mount Vernon for dinner at Hunan Garden with Chandra's parents. Mmmm, Chinese food. Then we got back and headed off to Chandra's suite to watch Hocus Pocus. Eventually, all five of C's suitemates joined us, so we had a nice crowd to help us devour the chips and cookies and cokes. I dressed in the $2 dress I got from the costume sale and told people that I was either Peaseblossom (one of the fairies from A Midsummer Night's Dream) or a strange product of a crossbreeding between a fairy and a mountain goat. See, I don't have any suitably fairy-like shoes, and since I knew we were going to be walking around, I wore Halloween socks and my hiking boots. It worked, I tell you!
Anyway, after the movie, we ended up in the graveyard. (Yes, there's a college graveyard. Very small, and not especially spooky, since it's right behind the music building and the library, both of which are lit up all night, but it's still there.) We used my big fat canister of salt--it's the only size they sell it in at the grocery store--to make a circle to ward off witches. *snicker* Then we cleared away any potentially-fire-prone leaves and lit a candle each and read the ghost/scary stories we had written. 'Twas much fun.
But oh, the most entertaining part came after. We decided to walk down to the Upside Down Tree near Peirce and climb around in it, as we often do. Chandra and Ellen were wearing cloaks, I was in my fairy outfit, and Whitney was in tye-dye. Anyway, we were up in the tree around midnight, and we hear people coming up beside the tree. We're all being still, for some reason, and we listen to the people.
Who are scared to death of us.
Heh.
There was one who kept talking about "glowing green eyes," and who jumped at least a foot when one of us moved. He screamed and sent everyone running. Then they came back, and there was more talk about glowy green eyes (er, me? My eyes are green, but they don't glow...) and "something's in there! I saw it move!" and then Whitney started us all hissing. The other group, which had maybe five guys and three girls in it, all shouted something about rattlers and ran back down the road.
I was first thinking that maybe they were playing at being scared just to see if we would come out or something, but their scared reactions (there was whimpering) seemed a little too real. So I've revised my opinion to "drunk, possibly high, stupid freshmen." Although they didn't sound particularly inebriated, to the point where they would be seeing "glowing green eyes" and believing it, but hey... Maybe they thought we were actually snakes? Hmmm. Any way you put it, it was vastly amusing for the four of us. I really want to know who these people were, if only so that I can mock them via allstu. ;)
And that was my night. All in all, a most satisfying Halloween. The only thing that would've made it better would be a bit of one of the History Channel's yearly specials. Although I guess they'd be rerunning it now, and no one's in the lounge...hmmm...
