Sci-fi'ed!

So. Sci-Fi Society tonight. For four hours (not entirely intentionally). Hee. That was fun; we obviously found where all the geeks hang out. They're sort of like Kenyon's SCA, only with cons instead of...um...whatever the SCA's things where they get together and dress up are called ([livejournal.com profile] laserhead?), and obscure Dr. Who references instead of obscure medieval weaponry references. Also, lots of technogeeks abounding everywhere. So, yes, much fun, and lots of Farscape and Stargate fans. I was popular for a little bit because I've seen Atlantis already. Mwahaha.

Ballroom tomorrow; they only do one day a week here, and they split up the night into beginners and "improvers," and it all ends before 10. Amazing. I was thinking about wearing my Kenyon ballroom shirt, but decided against it. Probably don't want to scare them too badly if they aren't quite as...interesting...as KCBDC, though I imagine they would be--ballroom sort of lends itself to creating the same type of people everywhere, I think. It's the rumba, you know. I also have my Shakespeare class tomorrow afternoon, which as far as I know is more of the "hi, I'm your professor, these are the books you need, see you next week" type thing that's been going on today.

Had my first "Ghosts, Death & Memory in Renaissance Drama" (aka Shakespeare) class today. It involves a group presentation by each group every other week, which should be...interesting. The two girls I'm with seem very nice and were taking notes very diligently during class, so hopefully it won't be as painful as it was in high school. Still not thrilled with the whole public speaking thing, though.

The prof is either an American or a Brit who's spent a lot of time in the US. I couldn't place the accent. Maybe he's from somewhere in the northeast, where half of them practically sound English already? ;) Anyway, lots of interesting historical context for the course this time around. Should be a good class, if the group presentations aren't too annoying.

I discovered Sainsbury's this morning in town. Much better than Tesco, and not a whole lot more expensive. Still no rye bread, cream of celery soup, or celery seed (I feel like I'm a quest for the holy grail here), but I got almost-but-not-quite-as-good substitutes for the first two in some store-baked French bread that's really tasty and some cream of mushroom soup. It was strange to see Campbell's labels here when I haven't seen too many familiar brands; I had to keep myself from buying out the store.

Ballroom tonight, woo-hoo!

Ballroomed!

Yay, ballroom! Tonight's "improvers" class (their version of intermediate, I think) was somewhere in between a Ksenia lesson and an Igor lesson, thought tilted more toward the Igor side of things. And it only lasts two hours, started on time, and stopped only ten minutes after they said it would. Wow, ballroom that almost runs on time. ;) I already found the Exeter equivalents of Ksenia, Grace, and David. Heh. They have a man and a woman instructor who apparently do all the lessons; they're nice folks, although I wasn't always able to understand the man's accent. We did a nice, short International Tango combination that I figured out almost immediately, woo-hoo! Of course, to counter that was an insanely long International Foxtrot combo that gets you all the way around a rather large floor. It includes three heel turns. Three. Dying now, yeah. No happy, easy, American Smooth dances to help me out. But if I keep it up, I'll be fabulous at International dances when I come back to Kenyon...

They said that the other weekly intermediate/advanced class would be more of the same, but unfortunately, it usually meets on Thursdays, which is the same day as choir, so... Probably it's best that way; gotta study at some point, you know. ;) Sometimes it meets on Fridays, so I'll go then.

*cha-chas around room* It feels so nice to dance again after such a long summer.
