Bright Morning Stars
Feb. 8th, 2011 08:14 pmThe new Wailin' Jennys album is out! And it's awesome! I wasn't totally in love with every track on their last two albums, but I don't think there's a dud on this one. They've always had great voices and amazing harmonies, but they seem to have made a great leap forward in songwriting this time around. Taken as a whole, it seems lyrically much more complex than in the past, and they're trying a few new things stylistically and melodically as well.
"Swing Low Sail High" is still the standout, but "Bird Song," "Across the Sea," and "Asleep at Last" are also new favorites. Ruth Moody's "All the Stars" made it on here, in an even better arrangement than was on her album, which is wonderful.

I got a bit more done on "Three Cliches Meg Thatcher Found Herself Playing Completely Straight, and One She Subverted with Not Inconsiderable Glee" during my lunch break today, so it might see the light of day sometime soon. It was originally going to be "Four Cliches...," but then one of them decided to grow a plot, and I thought it might be best to just make it its own fic. But I might wind up smooshing it back into the other one. We'll see.

It's going to snow again tomorrow, argh argh argh.
