Bright Morning Stars
Feb. 8th, 2011 08:14 pmThe new Wailin' Jennys album is out! And it's awesome! I wasn't totally in love with every track on their last two albums, but I don't think there's a dud on this one. They've always had great voices and amazing harmonies, but they seem to have made a great leap forward in songwriting this time around. Taken as a whole, it seems lyrically much more complex than in the past, and they're trying a few new things stylistically and melodically as well.
"Swing Low Sail High" is still the standout, but "Bird Song," "Across the Sea," and "Asleep at Last" are also new favorites. Ruth Moody's "All the Stars" made it on here, in an even better arrangement than was on her album, which is wonderful.

I got a bit more done on "Three Cliches Meg Thatcher Found Herself Playing Completely Straight, and One She Subverted with Not Inconsiderable Glee" during my lunch break today, so it might see the light of day sometime soon. It was originally going to be "Four Cliches...," but then one of them decided to grow a plot, and I thought it might be best to just make it its own fic. But I might wind up smooshing it back into the other one. We'll see.

It's going to snow again tomorrow, argh argh argh.

Date: 2011-02-09 10:07 am (UTC)And I am super-excited to read a new Due South fic from you. I've been on a marathon rewatch over the past week (just finished season 2), and have been desperate to find a good het or gen fic that I haven't already read, but the fandom is somewhat lacking.

Date: 2011-02-09 12:36 pm (UTC)Believe me, I am JUST as horrified. This winter has been INSANE. We're already at double our annual average (which, okay, means we've had eleven inches instead of five), and we've still got February to get through. :(

Eeee! Thank you. :) I've, uh, actually been writing up a dS hetfic storm in the past two months, if you've missed it. Check out the first seven entries here (minus the ficlet roundup post).
Rewatch! \o/ I've been doing kind of the same thing, except in odd bits and pieces--an S3 episode here, a couple S1 episodes there, some S2 over there...apparently I'm trying to get through the series in the most roundabout way possible.
