I promise I'll stop spamming after this...
Oct. 2nd, 2004 11:45 pm...but I had to say that my dinner was a success! It ended up being chicken in chicken-and-mushroom flavored pasta with broccoli florets mixed in, which I wasn't sure would turn out so well, but it did. Everyone seemed to like it a lot; I've been asked to cook more. :) The only downside was that either we screwed up and didn't get a Teflon-coated frying pan or gas cooks waaaaaaay faster than electric, because I burned a few bits of it, and I don't remember that kind of skillet meal ever burning at home. But other than that, it worked! Wheee!
Now, I'm still willing to sell my soul for a can of cream of celery soup and/or some celery seed...or even some canned chicken, as Mom says chicken salad isn't too tasty with just cooked chicken breasts... Oh, and what's with the absence of rye bread? Aaaaauuugggghhhh!!!! Do I need to go to some kind of specialty bakery to get it? Help me out here! Sandwiches just aren't worth it without the rye! Must I resort to multigrain?

Date: 2004-10-02 11:45 pm (UTC)To answer your question: gas does cook way better than electric does. Way better. And I'm so jealous that you have a gas stove, so jealous!

Date: 2004-10-03 12:06 am (UTC)And on the way into Exeter, I saw a billboard for a Wal-Mart/ASDA supercenter. I never thought I'd miss Wal-Mart being a free shuttle ride away...

Date: 2004-10-03 12:09 am (UTC)I really don't care for this gas stove and oven thing. Open flame makes me extremely nervous. I guess it cooks a little faster, though, which I suppose is a good thing...although it means more watching and stirring and less sitting at the table and reading while listening for sounds of burning...

Date: 2004-10-03 01:12 am (UTC)Hmm, I'm more nervous around electric stones than gas. Maybe that's because I grew up with a gas stove, but I have found I'm less likely to burn myself with gas than electric. Some of the electric ones don't seem to show that they're on/have heated up except on the dial. With gas, I can look and go, okay fire, don't touch.

Date: 2004-10-03 05:55 pm (UTC)Although, yes, I do distinctly remember being two and thinking, "Ooooh, pretty orange coils on the stove, I'll touch them!" and spending the rest of the night wailing in pain.

Date: 2004-10-03 05:58 pm (UTC)These have a little igniter button you press once you turn the gas on. However, it only works on one of them. On the other one, you have to toss a match in and hope for the best.

Wheee! Hopefully by then I'll have found a supplier of the ingredients I need for various meals...

Date: 2004-10-04 03:51 pm (UTC)The big Tesco superstore is a ways out of town, and rather an expensive way at that (by bus, anyway). Plus it's not like I could carry back enough to really make it worth it. Sigh. Growl. Argh. Maybe I can con someone with a car into taking me there...
