To continue the fandom go boom, I give you
Oh, my. My, my, my.
Okay, I'm gonna go against the grain and say that the Sam and Jack plot was my least-favorite part of the whole thing. (Not sure how much this is affected by the fact that I spoiled myself silly for this before watching it. If I'd watched it cold, I might've just been so gobsmacked at TPTB finally having the gumption to address the whole thing like this that I would've loved it. But I suppose we'll never know.) I haven't watched any of the back half of SG-1's season but "It's Good to Be King," so I didn't really follow the whole universe-destroying weapon thing, but I was all over the Daniel-in-the-Existential Cafe scenes (Oma was SO Harvey, OMG!), and I've actually liked the Teal'c and rebel Jaffa plots over the past year or so. So many great quotes from Daniel's plot. Hee.
But the Sam and Jack stuff just felt so contrived at times. Drove me batty. Jack having a new girlfriend he stole from the cradle I can dig, but her being all "I'm leaving you so you can be with Sam, I'm such a martyr," COMBINED with Sam finally leaving Pete (um, yay! More on that later) COMBINED with Jacob telling Sam to go after Jack, regulations be damned? Was just too much. Astonishing that it would all be timed so perfectly like that, isn't it?
Why the hell did Jacob have to die, anyway? Is this related to one of the eps I didn't see? 'Cause again, suspicious timing. And dammit, I want Jacob to be there to be the consummate father-in-law for Jack! Also, his and Sam's conversation where he tells her he's dying--did that seem strangely formal to anyone else? Maybe it was just me.
And Sam and Pete breaking up. One of the high points of the whole S/J storyline, I have to say. Pete buying the house without consulting her? OMG SO CREEPY. I get that he was trying to be nice and thoughtful and everything, but still, OMG SO CREEPY. (And they talked about Sam's perfect house their first night together? There's some thrilling pillow talk. Sam, do you still have a Barbie Dream House in your bedroom?) I figured they would break up eventually (especially when Sam took forever to accept his proposal, and then basically accepted because Pete had helped save Teal'c's life, or so it seemed to me), so calling off the wedding wasn't much of a surprise to me; however, Sam's handling of it...could've gone better. Poor Sam. She was doing okay until that line. Oy. *headdesk*
Shorter takes:
- "Waltzing...now." Heh. (I take it Daniel appeared to kick the bucket in some episode previous to this?)
- So did Oma's Existential Diner remind anyone else of that Voyager episode ("Deathwish," I think) where Q takes Janeway & co. to that general store at the end of existence? 'Cause I was totally having flashbacks.
- Hey, it's a Southern Jaffa! Isaac Hayes' character sounds like he ought to be orating some evangelical sermon. "Saaaaave us from the Goa'uld!"
- Dude, it's a Jaffa band. Awesome. I bet those guys know how to rock.
- And Sam, you're flinching when Pete kisses you. Try and tell me this isn't a sign.
- So no one can call Jacob "Dad" until they marry his daughter, but Jack can, eh? Hee. Not obvious at all.
- Aaaaaand Pete makes a fool of himself.
- "I'd like some truth with a side order of clarity." Bwah!
- *coughthiswassupposedtobetheseriesfinalecough* Noooot obvious at all.
- Dude, The Ascended Times has the best headlines ever. "Anubis' dastardly plot." Heh.
- Jacob so doesn't like Pete.
- *watches half of SG-1 fandom drop to the floor*
- Um, question. If everyone is thinking that perhaps Daniel isn't coming back from wherever (or at least Sam is), then why aren't they slightly more unhappy? More stuff I missed earlier? Unshakeable faith in Daniel?
- I like the music in the Enlightenment Cafe.
- Aaaaand Sam's stammery little speech to Jack is so straight outta fanfic.
- "This is awkward."
"Ya think?"
Sam and Jack are so married. She's assimilated his speech patterns. Wahahaha.
- Um...what's the point of being a higher being if you aren't perfect? Come on. You might as well just say "we're humans with a few special abilities." Which they are. So there.
- Um, Jacob...math?
- Jacob is so a shipper. Okay, so added to all the other contrivances it wasn't such a good move, but it did warm my heart a little.
- "I really like you." And Kerry's fifteen.
- "You have issues." No, really?
- Because Sam and Jack shagging if he's the civilian head of the SGC wouldn't be frowned on either... *rolls eyes*
- *sniffles* Jacob! Amanda Tapping played those scenes so, so well. CarmenArge Ager Carmen A. was fantastic, too. Stargate needs to quit making me cry.
- *melts* I did appreciate that scene in the observation room. Well done.
- Oma ex machina. Fun times.
- Naked!Daniel! I'm not complainin'. ;)
- Okay, it's probably a good thing that I did read spoilers for this, 'cause if I hadn't, once I saw Sam and Jack on the dock, I think I would've sprained something. So I read spoilers for my health and safety, y'all. ;) Daniel and Teal'c also being there was the right touch. I don't think I would've liked it as much if it was just Sam and Jack; that would've cheapened it somehow. (Well, more than it already was by the culling of fanfic plots, anyway.)

Date: 2005-02-12 12:19 am (UTC)Once upon a time, SG-1 was halfway decent, even, on ocassion, really quite good. Unfortunately, that time passed with the ending of season 5.

I saw! And I don't even want to think about how many people from my high school I friended on that thing.

Date: 2005-02-12 12:22 am (UTC)You could too, if you want. *coughcoughlemmeknowcough* Also, I wonder if Sci-Fi is going to show it as a 1.5-hour episode, like the UK did...
I am trying to remain unspoiled (yes, causing myself undue grief)
Fool!
It is very tempting, though, seeing other comment on how the fandom is exploding.
Fandom go boom. Seriously.
BTW, did you see the new casting for next year? Eek!
Which new casting for next year? There's been so much... *head spins* New commanding officers on both shows, Ben Browder, Claudia Black...

Date: 2005-02-13 07:37 am (UTC)It was contrived, but I'm still gobsmacked they did all of that. I'm so glad I saw this tonight instead of tomorrow, 'cause OMG SCHOOLWORK. I kept thinking "Oh, it'll be more bad timing and they'll drag this out." Nope. What the hell are they going to do now? Well, besides a ton of paperwork. ;)
And also: saw The Gift. Paperwork with their eyes, dude.

Date: 2005-02-14 12:50 pm (UTC)That might've been the better way to go. Except for the spraining of things at the end.

Egiht YEARS' worth of paperwork. ;) Although I have a vague feeling that they'll find some way to ignore it anyway.
And also: saw The Gift. Paperwork with their eyes, dude.
Totally.
(And you realize I cannot use the word "paperwork" in a sentence without cracking up now, right?)

Date: 2005-02-15 06:28 am (UTC)Yeah, probably. Thankfully, no injuries here, but I did nearly fall off my bed. Whoops!
Egiht YEARS' worth of paperwork. ;)
Hee, they're gonna be sooooooore. ;)
Although I have a vague feeling that they'll find some way to ignore it anyway.
Even if they do, I still say they're doing it during the commercials from now on.
Totally.
Hee. Oh, I did see The Seige I & II as well. AUGH. Do they only have 20 eps this season? I thought they had more and was not happy when there was a cliff-hanger.
(And you realize I cannot use the word "paperwork" in a sentence without cracking up now, right?)
Haha, yess. Same here. I giggle when other people say it, too. Ah, they all think I'm weird anyway. ;)

Wheeee!!!

They do indeed. Grrrr.

Date: 2005-02-17 06:34 am (UTC)Hee! Okay, now somebody has to write an AU where Sam and Janet dicuss honeymoon cystitis.
They do indeed. Grrrr.
Aw, man. Either they better start up before I leave or my net access in Oz better rock. Especially with the whole Sam (and Jack) are gone for a long time for mounds of paperwork and Ben and Claud things.

When do you leave?
