Summer! Even if it's 55 and raining!
Jun. 2nd, 2005 10:30 pmThis not-having-work thing, as it always does at the start of summer vacation, feels decidedly odd, but also wonderful. No work! Yay! Well, except for all that comps reading (OMG, I just noticed there's Virginia Woolf on there...AUGH) I have to do when I get back home, but let's not think about that yet.
I have time to write! Oddly, the album I just gushed about a few days ago has given me a ton of short story ideas that could potentially be my submission for Advanced Fiction next semester. They aren't particularly narrative, these songs, but the mood of the music, and a few words in each of them, just sparks something. It might help that most of them are reminiscent of what I tend to write when I don't write sci-fi...vaguely melancholy character pieces that really depend on a sense of place, particularly a southern place. (They do say write what you know, and at this point, it's either Tennessee or Ohio, so...)

Tomorrow I'm off to go gallivanting about the southeast for a few days. Talk to you all next week!
