Comps spam
Aug. 2nd, 2005 05:16 pmSlowly, slowly comes the Paradise Lost. I'm breaking it up with various pieces by Alexander Pope, who is slightly more readable, and sort of funny. In a way. My Chickering translation of Beowulf came today, so I may start that soon. Or I might do Blake. Decisions, decisions. Speaking of which...
By, let's say, September 26th, since that's the date printed on my nice yellow sheet of paper, I have to turn in a proposal for the written part of my comps (my college's senior exercise, for anyone who's new around these parts). Since I've taken the intro courses in both poetry and fiction, I can get myself a creative writing emphasis on my English degree. That presumably means that I need to decide to do one or the other for comps. However, I have NO IDEA which I want to do. Write a 9-12-page story or 9-12 pages of poems?
Fiction or poetry, fiction or poetry, fiction or poetry, fiction or poetry, fiction or poetry, fiction or poetry, fiction or poetry, fiction or--
SOMEBODY MAKE UP MY MIND FOR ME!!!
(Also? Submissions for Advanced Fiction are due in October. CRAP CRAP CRAP.)

Date: 2005-08-03 01:19 am (UTC)And ugh, Beowulf. I remember having to read that for... some class. I don't actually remember READING it, per se, but I seem to remember *having* to read it... It obviously left a lasting impression.

Date: 2005-08-03 03:23 am (UTC)Wheee! Hey, thanks anyway. I'm at the point where I'm contemplating a story about a poet. Then I can have lots of poetic interludes under the aegis of character development. Heeeeeey...

Hmmmm. This could be bad. Especially since part of my Intro to Anglo-Saxon class next semester is devoted to Beowulf. But I have to read it anyway...

Date: 2005-08-03 03:53 am (UTC)Well, that could help... Make it less of a waste of time, anyway. If it's any consolation, I think I remember liking it more than Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Ooh, and Faerie Queene. Or maybe that's not saying much, but... it's something!
