Comps = Life
Aug. 16th, 2005 11:53 amA very large part of me really wants either a T-shirt or a poster. (Link to the original concept/open letter courtesy of

Beowulf was a lot better than I was expecting. And if I hadn't known Tolkien was a medieval literature scholar before, I certainly would now. That poem is so Rohany (or the men of Rohan are so Spear-Daney, to be accurate...right down to there being a guy named Eomer) it's not even funny. Plus, y'know, Smaug was right there.
Even the introductory material and commentary was mostly interesting, which is unusual, to say the least.
And now I have "The Rape of the Lock" and The Marriage of Heaven and Hell to slog through in the next ten days. At least my version of the latter has all the pretty, colorful plates Blake engraved the poem on.

Yesterday I figured out how to salvage both themes of a poem that was trying to bifurcate itself on me without losing more than a stanza, so I'm pretty pleased with myself. (Why is it that basically everything I ever write starts out with trying to prove/talk about two points in one piece with one thesis/central tenent? Why?) So I have five poems for comps. I'm pretty sure I need at least ten, preferably fifteen, by the time the chapbook is due in December. I can totally do this. Yes, yes I can. *does not freak out*
