Yeah, I'm a sucker.
Aug. 18th, 2005 06:35 pmI give in. Rec me Firefly fics, people. I'm not looking for anything in particular, just well-written pieces. Well, I'm slightly more interested in gen than ship or slash, but whatever.
Alternately, someone wanna direct me to the biggest, bestest archive that isn't fanfiction.net?
(Also: "Trash" = love. "I can kill you with my brain." Hee! And yeah, definitely more roller coaster than Ferris Wheel on this one. Or maybe the Ferris Wheel sped up to ridiculous speeds...)

Is it just me, or does anyone else who's had the misfortune of reading him think that William Blake was having just a little too much fun with the eighteenth-century equivalent of LSD? The early Romantics were kind of the early incarnation of hippies, and I swear that a large portion of The Marriage of Heaven and Hell could only make sense to someone who's stoned out of their minds.

Big Damn Zombies, Sir (http://www.livejournal.com/community/crack_van/101348.html) by Shrift Characters are absolutely spot on and the story is freaking hilarious. I read it quite awhile back, but go back and read it again and again.
I'd take a look at the Firefly recs (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=crack_van&keyword=Firefly+Fanfic+Recs&filter=all) over at

Big Damn Zombies, Sir
BWAH! That was hilarious.
And I forgot all about crack_van. I usually try to stay the hell away from that, as it's such a time-suck, but...

Date: 2005-08-19 04:55 am (UTC)Knew you'd love Trash. *g* People actually have a) memories b) brains and c) brains that can KILL! on Joss shows. Gotta love it. *bg*
Don't have any fic recs, but I could link you some excellent music vids if you'd like.
And also...when you've watched through "Objects in Space", you'll definitely want to read the comic book, methinks. Even if you're not a comic book person, the comics are the bridge between the show and the movie, read just like an episode, and the art is gorgeous. Trust me...
*Points to halo...no, really...*

Date: 2005-08-19 05:17 am (UTC)Hmmm...comics...as a rule, I'm not a fan of any kind of comic but the newspaper type. But probably one of my friends at Kenyon owns them, and I could bum them for an afternoon... *eg*

Date: 2005-08-20 06:11 am (UTC)As for those vids...
Three I love here: http://www.alter-idem.com/?now=2&category=Firefly
(Being an original Dukes of Hazzard fan--speak not to me of the travesty of a film!--the "Good Ol Boys" vid is quite a treat. *g* "Mary" is a beautiful, bittersweet char study of Inara. And "Adiemus" is my absolute favorite Firefly vid--a study of the ship Serenity set to gloriously gorgeous music. The lyrics don't literally mean anything, yet the musical emotion and the images are matched so perfectly it takes my breath away. Oh--and the site has some pretty cool 'Scape vids too!)
Another excellent one here: http://www.heresluck.net/videos/index.html
(Thistledown Tears is the one...really cool modern folk song. And it always strikes me as a perfect lead in to the movie...not in a spoilery way, but in that the video seems to me to be about the calm before the storm, the gathering of strength before the fit really hits the shan. The key lyric is "The time to wrestle the angel is near...". I love that--and it's so true when you've seen Serenity!)
If like me you have a secret soft spot for the music of Bon Jovi, you'll enjoy the "Wanted Dead or Alive" Mal vid here: http://different-light.net/fanvids/fireflyvids/
Last but not least, a few here: http://www.manpire.com/videos.htm
(The two I love there are "Banditos"...just a fun punk song which fits the crew pretty well--and a rockin' guitar solo matched with galloping horses!...and "Magic", a heartachingly beautiful vid about Simon & River set to an extremely fitting Ben Folds Five song.)
Think that's it for now. :?)
