Dartmoor in photos
Oct. 24th, 2004 11:06 pmETA, June 2006: All photos are now here.
Heading to Princetown
The large stream we got off the bus at.
Aw, ponies! Cold ponies!
One of the few signs of autumn I've seen here. Oh, and a sheep in the road. Baa.
Chandra in the same shot, without the sheep.
Neat trees.
Princetown coming into view!
One of the few pictures I got that isn't out of focus due to the window blowing me around. It really was just that misty.
Princetown shrouded in the mist that comes suddenly, covers everything, and then disappears.
The Moors (tm)
The path. No, really.
The desolate track we followed when it wasn't watery.
Stand of pine trees with a dramatic cloud.
Picture of a stream that shows how dark and gloomy (but not raining) it was out there.
Chandra perching.
Tussocks!
Granite littering the moors.
Stone circle. It looks like it's on Mars because it's out of focus, sorry.
Travelling beam of light!
The moors are very secluded and solitary. Except for Chandra.
Dramatic, low-lying clouds.
It got misty there for a while.
More moor.
Moor with sheep.
Moor with stream.
Moor with bog action.
Moor looking to be in soft focus. Probably because the wind was trying to blow me off the edge of the earth.
I don't think I could live here. I'd go crazy.
An honest-to-goodness tor, with more clouds and tussocks.
Sam, there're faces in the water! Er, clover, I mean. Yes. Lots of clover covered in a makeshift pond.
Watch out for barrow-wights!
(Er, yes. Dartmoor is very like Rohan, except much wetter and with more wind, so we were all in an LOTR-ish mood.)
The quarry
Interesting hollowed-out building near the quarry.
Chandra standing next to the building.
The quarry (1, 2, 3, 4)
The Pony
Pony!
Pony again!
Man, just looking at these again makes me want to go throw myself off a cliff or something. It was neat, but rather unsettling all the same. It's the kind of place where you feel like something's sneaking up behind you all the time...oh, wait, that was
rowdycamels. Never mind. ;) Still, the disturbingness of it remains. I'm gonna have dreams about the Hound of the Baskervilles or something tonight...
