Well, my ears are still ringing a little, my eyes are bedazzled, and I reek of Off!. That constitutes a proper 4th of July in my book. ;)

It seems like everyone in the neighborhood got some fireworks this year, providing entertainment for us and terror to the dogs. My aunt and uncle (our next-door-neighbors) invited us over to see a couple, which were so pretty. Sometimes I think the homegrown fireworks are even better than the big ones. I'd love to know how they get them to whistle.

Then we came inside to watch the ones downtown at Riverfront Park (ranked eighth-best in the nation, according to the newspeople) on TV, and they were even more wonderful. Truly lovely, especially the last few minutes. Another channel followed them almost immediately by the show in Boston, which was even better (although the Phil Collins tune was grating--sorry, [livejournal.com profile] nickless, but the man's music gives me hives). Everyone seemed to be getting into the big happy faces--Boston did a great little set to "What a Wonderful World" with happy faces during the line about people's smiles, and some hearts elsewhere. It was adorable. And their finale was breathtaking.

Ahhhh, the freedom to set fire to large amounts of gunpowder. What a wonderful legacy from our founding fathers. ;)
