All I know is that the Beeb announced that Billie will not be returning for S3. I've heard murmurings about spoilers that she will die, but I don't think they've been confirmed in any way (and if they have, DON'T TELL ME). So in that vein, here are my predictions for Rose's departure at the end of episode thirteen:
1. Rose will die, oh noes!!!
2. Rose will sort of merge with the TARDIS, so that she's always there, floating around in the circuits, but Billie doesn't need to be around. People will still write porn anyway.
3. Rose will be kidnapped and the Doctor will spend the next season(s) searching time and space for her, a la Daniel and Sha're.
4. Rose will take heed of the anvils and realize that Family Is Awesome and leave the Doctor of her own volition to return to Jackie/her own time or to bugger off to the alternate universe from ROTC/AOS.
5. Rose goes to work for Torchwood. Possibly Sarah Jane is there too?
6. Something else entirely will happen, and it will be awesome, and my respect for Rusty will be restored.
7. Something else entirely will happen, and it will be awful, and I will give up in disgust.
Personally, my money's on number four, and I think one is the most unlikely. Five would rock like a rocking thing, but seems unlikely as then we'd need to see Billie in Torchwood (although Sarah Jane in the show would be SO AWESOME). I had actually thought of two and three well before this season started, because I remember one of the first things I read when I got into this fandom was RTD's claim that he'd known how Rose would leave from the very beginning, and that she wouldn't die, because he wanted to leave the door open for Billie to come back and guest star in the future.
This is less speculation than wishful thinking: can the next companion please not be from the early twenty-first century? Please? I'd really love a historical companion. That would be awesome. Or one from the far future, maybe? *puppy eyes* If we're going to continually be stuck in 2007-ish London, then we could at least have a companion who isn't from that particular time and place. I don't know if they've cast/announced who the next companion will be, and don't want to know until he/she (but probably she) shows up on my screen, so don't tell me that, either.
Also, I watched "City of Death" today, and it boggles me that there are people in this world who can actually think that the Doctor and Romana aren't on a date pretty much throughout that serial. Because...dude. DUDE. I went to Paris with some very good friends, but I certainly didn't hold their hands all the way through it. Or give them big goofy grins at every opportunity. Or basically LOOK LIKE I WAS ON A DATE. (I suppose Tom Baker and Lalla Ward kind of were at that point, weren't they? Heh.)
And I finally figured out who Elisabeth Sladen/Sarah Jane reminds me of...she looks like a dark-haired Meg Ryan. Seriously! Something about their facial structure is very much alike. Plus there's the perkiness and plucky-girl-reporter-ness...my God, she was the first Sally Albright! Heh.

Romana/Doctor: Yeah, I can see all that. They do seem very well-suited for each other. I don't have an OTP for DW--I'm a terrible Old Skool fan and ship the Doctor with plenty of people ;)--but I do enjoy their interaction very much.
Oh well, you can't tell all these new "Rose is leaving my life is over and I'll never watch the show again" types anything. It's worse than when MS left Stargate.
Lord, yes. Hence why I defriended
