Jury'd!

Summons to jury duty was running rampant among my group of friends at Kenyon last semester (I think I knew four people from four different states called in just six months), and now it seems it's finally caught up with me.

I suppose "unemployed and growing ever more depressed about one's lack of results in the job search market" doesn't really constitute a reason to be excused, does it? Thought not.

Oh, well. Might be interesting, actually. Or else I'll be in for three days of uncomfortable chairs and trying to read in a big room with a lot of noise and people while waiting to be called, whichever.

I hear jury duty is actually quite interesting, especially if you've never done it before. And they wouldn't keep you for three days, would they? My mom had jury duty last year, and she was only gone for the morning and afternoon.

Either way, I look forward to hearing about it. Is it coming up soon, or is it not for a while?

My dad didn't mind it so much when he had to do it. It does sound sort of interesting, if you don't get a horrible case that goes on for months and months, anyway.

And they wouldn't keep you for three days, would they?

The Davidson County Court obligates you to show up until you're picked for a trial or until you've come for three days and not been picked, whichever comes first. The lawyers from each side of a case select a big group of people from the even bigger pool of that week's potential jurors, and upon doing a group interview, they can reject anyone they want for any reason they want. Then you're back where you started. I'm not sure how often people get passed over all together here, though.

Is it coming up soon, or is it not for a while?

A little over a month from now. At least they give plenty of warning.
