Oh God, the trauma. The TRAUMA. This is trauma on the level of...what was that third-season episode where the version of John that's been on Talyn with Aeryn dies of radiation poisoning? And then she goes and looks like she's going to jump out a window? It's like that. Or like "Die Me Dichotomy." To switch fandoms, you might also compare it to "Father's Day," or perhaps TPotW. THAT LEVEL OF TRAUMA. Peter made Assumpta cry, and that very nearly made me cry, and why does this have to hurt in such a satisfying sort of way?
And it's only going to get worse until the tenth episode, wherein it will get a lot better for about forty minutes, and then the real death and destruction starts. This is starting to remind me of BSG, only funny and Irish.
The Christmas episode, particularly Peter's live turkey gobbling around, was pretty funny, though. And the third episode, with both Peter and Assumpta out of town, avoided the relentless beatdown for a while...until Brian Quigley went bankrupt. *facepalm* What happened to my charming, cheery little series that touched on depressing things and yet managed to be light-hearted at the same time? Waaaah!

The Celtic radio station on iTunes is currently playing a song from Brigadoon. While I get the connection, that doesn't mean I have to like it.

After Assumpta's not-in-her-right-mind marriage to an old boyfriend (because she "thought it would drive [Peter] out of [her] mind," since he'd gone on retreat to get her out of his mind), she quickly ends up separated from him. Peter's mother dies. He comes back to Ballyk. They have three-quarters of an episode's worth of being on the same page, and he finally decides he can't be a priest anymore. Hooray! one thinks. Things are looking up. Peter tells her he loves her. Then, for real, ten seconds later, Assumpta gets electrocuted in a freak fuse box accident.
*headdesk*
I'm contemplating just not watching the end of that episode...

Date: 2006-09-07 01:48 am (UTC)That right there that's classic daytime. Make you happy then screw you the next second.
Also classic daytime, marry someone you don't love to get over the person you really do love.
