More writing woes
Sep. 25th, 2006 12:20 amWell, I really gave the using-the-name-of-someone-you-know-as-the-name-of-a-character thing a try, but it is soooo not working out for me. I tried naming a character after someone I knew all four years at college, who sort of straddles the line between acquaintance and friend. I like her name, but I've never known anyone else with it, and so my immediate association is with her. It's totally throwing me off, because this character isn't really supposed to be much like her.
So she needs a new name. Bah.
Anyway, this story concerns someone on a year abroad in England, though not at Exeter. However, totally without meaning to, I appear to be...exorcising some of my demons, and exuding some vitriol even in the first 400 words. *g*
Speaking of this kind of thing, I started a new writing journal at
icepixie_writes. It will consist exclusively of unfinished/in progress bits and bobs in various stages of revision, generally of the non-fanficcy type, and maybe some flailing. (Although the usual amount of flailing will still happen here, because then I can make polls about it. *g*) I make absolutely NO PROMISES to update it on anything resembling a schedule, or even at all. But theoretically it will kick my butt into writing a bit more often, knowing that someone might be out there reading. I'm f-locking the whole thing, so if for some crazy reason you want to read, leave a comment at the open post (or here, whichever). If you ask to be friended, I don't expect you to comment, but you could if you wanted to. Assuming I ever post anything. ;)

"Since she lived on the second floor of Hartleman Hall, she was eye-level with the red and gold leaves of several trees outside.
Or rather, she would've been, had the trees had the decency to reveal some brilliant colors by the middle of October."
"She'd quickly learned that the British students, at least the ones she lived with, spent Sunday recovering from the hangovers caused by drinking binges the previous night."
No demons AT ALL.
