icepixie: (The Painter's Honeymoon)

So, um, I think one is not meant to marathon season three of Slings and Arrows.

Wow, that's little too much Lear in one night. Ow. I'm sitting here trying to convince myself that it really didn't make me cry, even though it totally did. Wow, this season was sad. And, um, awkward. In many, many ways was it awkward.

But you know, the last episode was totally worth the rest of the season being substantially darker (and so much more awkward in a not-really-funny way) than the previous two. Even if it did make me cry. I had been pretty ambivalent about the whole Geoffrey/Ellen thing, but I admit, when she said yes to his unasked question, I did a little happy dance in my chair. And trust Ellen to wear a red dress on her wedding day.

In season two, I briefly shipped Richard and Anna, but um, yeah, I renounce that now. I had such high hopes, but Richard never grew the spine he needed. He just turned into a giant ass. Anna telling him off in her last scene with him was fantastic. *g*

Props to everyone involved for having a real, live, no-going-back conclusion to the whole thing. So few series I like get the chance to go out with a bang, and when they do get the chance, they often don't come to such a decisive ending.

So, I think I need to watch the whole series again to really get all the jokes and connections and allusions. I might bring myself to reread King Lear before watching season three again, even. I read it junior year; you'd think it would still be fresh(ish) in my mind, but it's all gone. I recognized none of the dialogue that was being recited.

Or maybe I'll just be lazy. You never know.
