Brrrr. I guess this sudden cold snap is nature's way of making up for the week of 80s we just had, huh? *shivers* Too bad it had to happen for Easter; people who bought new Easter dresses made out of skimpy material with short sleeves are going to be Put Out come Sunday, I think.
So...apparently the new Doctor Who season started? Hmmm. I'm not sure whether to watch. The idea of watching it all at the end is attractive. Mostly, I'm still a bit pissed off at how last season ended (misogyny for all!), and just not interested in seeing any more of it. The more Old Who I saw, the less I liked the new version, and "Doomsday" really did a number on my appreciation for anything connected with RTD.
I think I've become more monogamous (if serially so) over the years in regards to fandom as well. I used to be able to juggle a half a dozen different ones, even if they were all airing at the same time, and now I'm like, "Eh, Who. Hey, more due South fic!" Possibly this is compounded by actually being in the process of writing fic for that show... But yes, now it's like I can have one full-time fandom (watching/reading source, reading fic, writing fic), one or two where I just pay attention to the source and nothing else, and then maybe one more where I'm just casually reading fic. I suppose now that BSG's over for the season, Who could be my "just the source" fandom...
Apropos of nothing:
alto2, I finally started A Passage to India this week. Mmmm, so good. Well, good through the first third, anyway. That's as far as I've gotten just reading it at lunch and for a few minutes before bed. I'm both glad and not glad that I read Orwell's Burmese Days last year for British Empire; glad because I have a more thorough understanding of certain words and concepts referenced here, and not so because I have a feeling I know how this one's going to end.
I'll probably finish it this weekend, because I have tomorrow off! Yay!

Date: 2007-04-08 08:57 pm (UTC)Um, I dont' really know what Hasselhoff looks like, so I can't compare. The hair wasn't one of his better styles, though.
(I fell asleep halfway through it when Sarah and I tried to watch it, and I'm gradually making a second attempt...)
What is it with you two and the lack of WW love? It's the best movie I've seen in years!
Probably not the third, alas, or we'd've heard something more concrete by now. But fourth? Maybe? Dude can go play with TW - it's already hopelessly ridiculous.
He can do whatever he wants to TW. Just stay the hell away from DW.
Hrm. Yeah, there are definitely some opportunities for depth that they're sailing right past.. Maybe once they move beyond the "OMG MUST MAKE EXCITEMENT TO DRAW NEW VIEWERS!!!1!1!" stage of the season, they'll get some more grown-up storylines?
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. You're funny. RTD's idea of "grown up" is the companion wailing on a beach, remember?
GAH. If there's one fanfic theme that squicks me out more than Nine/Rose, it's Doctor/Jack. Flirting is fine, flirting is canon, but No. Pr0n. It's Just. Wrong.
Awww. I like Doctor/Jack, if only because I think Jack is mature enough to understand that it could never last.
And hasn't the BBC sworn that the Doctor will never ever ever ever make an appearance on TW, for the sake of Shielding The Kiddies? So I think we're safe there.
Oh, yeah. Darn.
I *am* hoping for a big confrontation over the whole "Um, left me on a station full of corpses and never mentioned me again for a whole season?" thing. Plus a "You kept my hand in a jar? Ew."
YES.
The only spoilers I've seen for the finale so far are The Boys Have Majestic Swirling Coattails Of Awesome. And that's about enough for me at this point.
Oh, my.
MUAHAHAHAH!

Date: 2007-04-10 10:32 pm (UTC)I can see a whole generation of anti-Rusty Whovians, uniting under a battle cry of "NORRRRRWAAAAAAAY!!!!!"
Except, wait, that would require Who fans to *agree* on something....

Eh, DW!Jack could maaaaaybe manage that. But TW!Jack would be all, "EMOOOOOOOOOO!!!! *cough* I mean, uh, "temporary," yes. Observe my adult maturity. [pause] EMOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
Evil person...
You know you needed more gun-toting space rhinos in your life.

Oh, I'd forgotten about his personality change. Darn.
