You are the anti-content!

But! Mysteries of Udolpho!! I haven't read it, but we talked about it in Austen contexts so much that I feel like I've read it. After you finish it, you should totally read Northanger Abbey - it's one big mockery of Udolpho and Radcliffe's ilk (and if you want *really* sketchy gothic, try The Monk...), and it's much different from the rest of the Austen canon. Highly amusing. Sadly, no nuns.

I'M TOTALLY READING UDOLPHO RIGHT NOW. No, seriously, I checked it out of the library for the sole purpose of finding out what Austen was making fun of and...yeah. Lots of highly cliched idyllic description and then "OOOH, SOMETHING GOTHIC." Muahaha. Keep us updated on all of the highly sketchy activities of undead nuns in France.

Yay voice posts!

Northanger Abbey is the anti-Persuasion! Really, if I had to put all of Austen in a spectrum based on... any characteristic... those two would be at opposite ends. Having just read Udolpho will make it even more amusing, I'm sure.
