John, reading over my shoulder: "How did a fish crawl out of her laptop?" me: "A silverfish is a bug." John: "How was I supposed to know that?" me: "Because it's a nasty nasty bug with lots of legs and it's one of the most disgusting things in the world."
Thank you for educating me, but I'm sorry, I will NOT click those links. I don't really want to know the difference by sight. Either one will just be, "EW."
BTW, the house centipede is the one with all the legs.
OMG IT'S A SKITTERBUG! And knowing the proper name for them makes them EVEN GROSSER! I'm so glad we haven't had an infestation this year like last year (knock on wood).
That is...quite possibly one of the most horribly disgusting things I can think of happening, mostly because it involves somewhere you work regularly. I recall a silverfish running out of our closet senior year, but...computer??? EEEEEEEEW.
I remember that house centipede senior year. (I think they're slightly more disgusting than silverfish. Like, on a scale of one to ten, the centipede is a twelve, while the silverfish is merely an 11.5. The massive number of legs put it over the top.)
It crawled out from under my lappy's keyboard, I'm pretty sure. I didn't actually see it, but I was looking at the screen and could see the keyboard in my peripheral vision, and there was suddenly a bug there. New incentive to get a new laptop this year....
Speaking as someone who gets the screaming meemies from centipedes... I don't think it's the legs that do it. Millipedes have more legs, and they're not scary. I think millipedes are kind of cute.
No, my problem with centipedes is the way they move. The way the legs sort of ripple while the centipede curves left and right. And how FAST they move. Ugh!

Date: 2007-11-12 01:42 am (UTC)...how does a silverfish manage to get under a keyboard anyway? I mean...squashy typing pressure...
Ew.
