icepixie: (Fraser/Thatcher horseback)

Soooo. I haven't read much fic in the past year or so. I'd forgotten what a fic bender is like.

Yeah, I've been trawling the Due South archive, LJ comms, mailing list archives, etc. for the past four days. I've been reading a lot of gen, because I love teh funny in this show, but I've also been wading through some Fraser/Thatcher stuff. (99% of the time I'm all over canon ships/canon UST like scum on a pond, white on rice, gel on Fraser's hair, or any other similie you care to name, so it was inevitable. And they are kind of cute. Okay, a lot cute. Hee, Mountie love!) Although I'm totally seeing the slash between Fraser and both Rays, so this show may make a multishipper out of me yet. (And I can still, in some twisted recess of my mind, get behind Thatcher/Turnbull. Frannie/Turnbull is pretty amusing too.)

Needless to say, if anyone has recs, I'm all ears. I'm up for casefiles, little bits of humor, stylistic pieces, plotty pieces...whatever. I'm avoiding the really glurgy, flowery stuff and the NC-17, but beyond that, I don't care.

Speaking of DS, today is my birthday, which means I got to open my DS seasons one and two boxsets yesterday when my parents I did the whole cake and presents thing. Wheee! (OMG, I'm 23. I feel ancient.)

I watched "We Are the Eggmen" last night. (I'm totally going to go in order now that I've seen that one. I kept seeing references to it in the fic I was reading [see above about the Mountie love], and I was curious.) Hee. I love when Fraser saves Meg from her dinner with Clouthier: "Your car. It's...on fire. It's burning away, and all of the other cars feel threatened." And saving the day by throwing raw eggs! Hee!

This show is so giggle-inducing. Good for a birthday.

Okay, so obviously I was a Fraser/Kowalski but since you seem pretty either/or about it, I did a sort of primer for my lj memories of my favs (http://josephides.livejournal.com/193149.html). Hope that's helpful!

The best ones are Speranza's. Because they're all novel length...

Needless to say, if anyone has recs, I'm all ears.

I have quite a few DS recs in my memories under "fic recs", though I think most of them either hint at or are totally obviously Fraser/RayK. Gunslinger is pretty gen, and highly amusing, albeit kinda short. With Six You Get Eggroll is Fraser/RayK, but there are no dirty bits, and the kids are adorable (Fraser and Ray adopted 6 of them for a number of different reasons). On that same note, anything by Speranza (http://trickster.org/speranza/) is extremely good, but again with her being mostly Fraser/RayK centric, and there usually are dirty bits, but I tend to skip right over those parts because I'm weird and hate reading smut for shows I actually watch. There's plenty of plot without the sex in most cases. :)

(OMG, I'm 23. I feel ancient.)
That was totally me on the first. And the several days leading up to/after it. 23 really isn't old, but I can't help but think "Dude, 23 and never a serious boy friend. Wow, I suck."
And, add to the fact that I am quite literally hobbling around like an old lady today thanks to that stupid snow storm and digging Coyote from his snowy tomb, the whole "old" thing is quite fitting.

What does that make me? Has someone forgotten to notify me that I'm knocking on heaven's door?

I'm glad you've had an excellent birthday--and I see you found ways to acquire the DS discs (and that it didn't take any too long for you to decide to get them!). ;)

See, I don't even have that excuse. I'm still *in* college (took a year off after high school, then changed my major halfway through my sophmore year, so I basically had to start all over again and will likely be in school until I die - okay, so until 2010 or there abouts, hopefully I won't die by then - or Gramma stops giving me money. ;) )

And a personal favorite in the aformentioned Speranza recs is Chicago's Most Wanted. There are a few smutty bits, but again, easy to skip over, and come on... Who *wouldn't* love BoyScout Fraser turned NotSoEvilButTotallyCriminal!Genius Fraser?
Also, though the whole "fic recs" folder in my memories is kinda a mess, all of the stories are labled "Fandom Here - Title Here", so if you click it to "sort by description" rather than the default sort by date, it should be easier to wade through.

Although wow, the quality of the video certainly does indicate that the DVD makers put about $12 of effort into each these things...

I think that's why I'd heard it was better to spend more money and get the Canadian discs, which are apparently much better and have features, etc. My cheaper side ultimately won out, though!

(And if you think that video transfer is bad, you should get your friends together for Bad Movie Night and watch Dealers with Paul McGann, which is hands-down the worst-quality DVD I've ever seen. It literally looks like someone did a quick/dirty copy from an old VHS tape. And for the record, watching with friends in the MST3K style is the only way to enjoy watching that movie--unless you turn the sound off so you don't have to hear the awful script!)

Oh, and with all your talk about Paul Gross and Due South I went out and bought the first three seasons so that I could relive how wonderful the show is. I think I'm addicted.
I remember loving it and I remember it being kooky and fabulous but I didn't remember quite how fabulous. So thanks for reawakening my love for this show. =)

I hope your birthday was wonderful.
