BSG 4.08: Hub
Jun. 6th, 2008 10:01 pmASDJKL:WICKHNC'PNWDFED1C!!!11!!1!!!! SO MUCH BETTER THAN LAST WEEK!
I sniffled a bit at the end, I admit. It was so PERFECT! Understated and private yet still incredibly meaningful and so very THEM. LOVE. I am awash in squee right now.
Alas, Baltar didn't die. I was SO hoping he would; I've been waiting for that particular moment, where Laura finds out his first big mistake and kills him ded, for four years now. But perhaps some things were not meant to be. And he is sort of interesting with the new messiah deal now. But DAMN, I was chanting, "Kill him, kill him!" through a good chunk of the episode.
Also, D'ANNA, YAY! I love me some D'Anna. Kind of figured she wouldn't bust out with the names of the final five--and I highly doubt we're going to find out the fifth next week--but she's quite possibly my favorite Cylon anyway, so that's okay. I do think we can pretty much cross Laura off the list entirely, though, after that little exchange between them. (Hee.) But, oh, she and everyone else is really gonna regret screwing over the Cylon allies. Really, really regret. Ow.
- Heh. I love Roslin's "Okay, this is freaky" expression at the beginning of that jump/dream thing.
-And she has her real hair back! Oh, please let this be a sign of things to come. That wig is awful.
- Heh. Everyone ignores Baltar. Quite rightly, too.
- So...Elosha is Jimminy Cricket? It's nice to see her again, anyway.
- Aw, Helo and Whatshername-Eight working together. And then it turns creepy. But still aww. That particular Eight is so perfectly pathetic...I just want to hug her and give her a cookie.
- Ah, the book again. Yay for literary lovers.
- "I've gotta say you're a little full of myself." Heh.
- The space scenes were AWESOME. Loved the "carpool." Kudos to the CGI folks!
- Ah, yes, Baltar the Cylon Marxist. Why do I get the feeling this is precisely the wrong thing to be doing right now?
- Whoa, Laura, you're sounding mucousy there. And robotic. *hugs gently* *gives magical halfbreed blood transfusion*
- Er. Are Baltar's arms spread out there on that table? Are we back to the Jesus references?
- Yeah, I rolled my eyes at "Just love someone" (Laura has FAR more problems than that's gonna solve!), but it did lead to the scene of happy, so I can deal.
- Hmmm. The ring isn't foreshadowing, is it? 'Cause that would be pretty awesome.
-Dude, Adama. It's taken you however many days to get only halfway through the book? Srsly? It's not like you have anything else to do...
- SQUEEEEE. That's a particularly nice variation of the Adama/Roslin Waltz, too.
Definitely watching the 11 o'clock showing tonight.

Hmmm...I caught the preview for DW, and I see that they're heading to the 1920s*. And meeting Agatha Christie. I, er, might have to give Rusty and his misogyny some viewing time next week. Maybe.
* They're traveling in time? In a time machine? Will wonders never cease?!

Date: 2008-06-07 04:26 am (UTC)I do wonder just what the hell Baltar was trying to pull with the Centurion. Obviously landed him in a pile of trouble, whatever it was! (I kept foolishly distracting myself, so my confusion may be the result of my own stupidity...)
As for DW, this year overall has been a dramatic improvement on the previous two years. I liked the Agatha Christie ep, though it's the Moffat that follows--and finishes tomorrow after killing me with suspense all week--that's truly fabulous. Not that this comes as any huge surprise...

Date: 2008-06-07 05:32 am (UTC)That they have. One of many reasons I want Roslin to get better on the double is because Mary McDonnell is GORGEOUS, especially when she has her own hair on.

I think he just can't keep his mouth shut. He's like one of the crazy streetcorner preachers.

Hmm. So it's not as mysogynistic? And it doesn't telegraph every plot development? And use nothing but hoary sci-fi cliches and plot points Rusty steals from himself?

Date: 2008-06-07 03:04 pm (UTC)She is. Along with Helen Mirren, she's the poster girl for the notin that--gasp!--women actually CAN get better with age!
You're probably right about Baltar, though now I'm wondering about the Centurions. We've never seen much in the way of them actually having some sort of sentience--it's mostly been like a telepathic "Where's the next thing we should kill? Oh, there!" communication, and basic following of orders. And yet, in Razor, and presumably the old series, they could talk. So perhaps that whole thing was partially to show that they're smarter than the average grunt? OR at least that they can think for themselves?
RE: DW, only you can judge that for yourself. Having grown up old-school, I come at the whole thing from a very different angle than you do, and couldn't possibly presume to judge those things in the same way as you. I'm always going to love an ep like "The Lazarus Experiment," because it's so old-school, even if it's cheesy. It's like mac-and-cheese for me. But I also love the Moffat stuff, so veggies are good, too! *And BTW, if you didn't see last year's "Blink," you really should. Moffat, hardly any Doctor at all, and definitely worthy of the award noms. It's right up there with TED/TDD from the first year.)
All I can say is that the lack of a companion who is desperately in love with the Doctor (hallelujah!), and the improvement of the writing in general, have made the show watchable for me this year. YMMV, and we're not to the end yet, where Rusty may pull one of his usual stunts and do something relentlessly idiotic. (He's only written one of the eps so far this year, which is probably why I haven't wanted to tear my hair out, but he has done the last three, and god knows--endings are NOT something he's good at.)

Date: 2008-06-08 12:10 am (UTC)I'm not sure, but I do remember there being a hive mind at some point--though possibly that got taken out along with the inhibitor chips--so now I'm wondering if any of Baltar's message got back to the other Centurions. If so, everyone's in deep shit, that's for sure...
I heard about "Blink." I'll have to watch it at some point.
Is Martha still on the show? I remember there were definite indications of hopeless infatuation last year, which was part of the reason I turned it off. (Unfortuantely, because I loved her otherwise.)

Date: 2008-06-08 12:16 am (UTC)I'd be amazed if you don't like "Blink." For the full effect, you really should watch it uncut and in the dark. (SciFi's ads just RUINED the whole thing last year, the bastards!)
Martha's been back for...three eps this year, but she's got a UNIT gig now, which is somehow Torchwood-related, and they make a big deal of her having a fiancé. Like you, I adored her except for the totally pasted-on infatuation. Talk about ruining a great character. Donna, fortunately, hasn't got that nonsense going on, which is part of why this year is better. (Do I recall hearing/reading that Rusty said the crush(es) were a mistake? I sort of think I do, but now I couldn't say for sure. I really hope we've seen the last of them.)

BTW, I love your icon. Heeeeee.
