icepixie: (Caprica go boom)

Hoooooooooooooly shit.

That...whoa. It may not have been as shocking as "One Year Later on New Caprica" ending, but, uh...yeah. Wow.

First things first, and that is that for pretty much the only time in the series so far, I really, really liked Lee Adama, to the point of thinking he was a bright young man with a good future ahead of him. Wow. And Starbuck, too! Apparently this was what her reference to Leoben's "Parents must die for the child to reach its potential" was all about--with Madame Airlock and the Admiral out of commission, they took charge, and actually did a much, much better job. Whoa. Perhaps some retirement is in order.

Shorter observations:

- Hmm. Is there something perhaps brewing between Gaeta and Dee? They're buddies, yes, but...hmm. They do need to make babies for the human race to survive...

- Aww. Tori looked so happy to be with her people. Apparently she got the strongest programming.

- Yet another Jesus image for Baltar. We get the point, y'all. Are they going to sacrifice him to make Earth fertile again or something?

- Poor Laura. Such a look of betrayal there. Aaaaaand Tori's being all bitchy. (Also, shut up, Baltar. You knew nothing.)

- Who was it who got airlocked by D'Anna? Some nameless pilot?

- And the four Cylons are now radio receivers. Or perhaps they're like geiger counters, where Earth is the geiger they are counting. However, what of the final Cylon? Did D'Anna say she wanted that one to remain in the fleet, or did I mishear?

- Bill looks...kind of constipated there, actually, rather than emotionally betrayed.

- And now he's cracking up completely. That must be awkward for Lee...

- Poor, gutless-yet-brave Tigh.

- Er. Wait. So all this drama happened in fifteen minutes? Or did a few more hostages get airlocked?

- Lee, again, is really awesome right here.

- And Kara is going to kill Sam in the night, I feel sure, now that she knows what he is. At any rate, I get the slight impression that this is clearing the way for making her completely single, and then for some kind of resolution in the Lee/Kara thing.

- Or perhaps the Viper is the compass to Earth...

- Okay, that was a pretty exciting five or ten minute sequence there, with the airlocks and the conniving Cylons and the Starbuck racing through the ship and the random shots of space. As exciting and tense as "33", even, which is high praise for me, because I frakking love "33".

- Hmmm. Now, who here can trust D'Anna any further than they can throw her? No one? I thought so. And I'm pretty sure Tori will be in on whatever scheme she plans for the second half of the season.

- Er. Why would Adama NOT want to continue to Earth? And why on, er, earth, would he get a say?

- Preeeeeeetty music there.

- Holy crap, the baseship is big. You can really see in that shot where it jumps in among the rest of the fleet.

- Oooooh. Earth.

- So. Question. Did anyone ever, oh, I don't know, try to make radio contact with Earth? Perhaps ask before touching down on the planet? "O hai, we're you're long-lost cousins, and also some members of the species who committed genocide on our twelve planets. Will you let us move in?" (After seeing the desolation at the end, of course, we know why no one would be answering, but they couldn't have had Dee say, "Trying to make contact. No one's answering," in a brief moment while in orbit?)

- Awwwwww. *melts into Roslin/Adama shipper goo*

- Uh, Lee? Any particular reason you're taking your clothes off right now?

- Aaaand that's earth. I can't tell what city that used to be, but it is very "used to be," that's for sure. But then again, maybe there are other places where the nukes (it had to be nukes) didn't reach... Heh, we can have a retread of the beginning of S1, with people running around endlessly on a dead planet and meeting up with guerrillas, except this time it'll be grayscale instead of sepia!

Urk. 2009 for the rest of the season, folks. I'm not sure I can wait that long.

ETA: Also, I just realized that all the remaining major characters made it to Earth alive. That may in fact be the most shocking thing.

I think what D'Anna said was that only four of the final five (the known-to-us four) were "in your fleet," implying that the 5th was not. There are a couple of different ways to read this, though. I've seen speculation that this means the final Cylon will be someone we haven't ever seen. A godlike figure, perhaps?

My own theory, though, is that this just meant that the final Cylon was not in the fleet at the time D'Anna made that statement--meaning the final one was on the basestar already instead. Meaning either Gaius, Laura, or Bill.

Oooh, an Artist Formerly Known as Dead, that'd be fun. Especially if it was Billy.

Who would take one look at Tori and go, "Bitch, please."

Me too. it's only been in the last week or two that he's done anything at all for me.

Tori looked so happy to be with her people. Apparently she got the strongest programming.

I took it more to be that she was sick of running around after Roslin and saw it as a fabulous way out.

Poor, gutless-yet-brave Tigh.

I loved that--I loved that whole scene, where he's saying "DO IT!" to Lee. To me, it reinforced the idea that these four are NOT like the others, and have a level of self-awareness that puts them in a totally different class that almost implies a higher form of evolution or something, even though I get the impression that they're older than the models we've followed. I'm really curious to see how that progresses--I hope they do something with it.

Did anyone ever, oh, I don't know, try to make radio contact with Earth? Perhaps ask before touching down on the planet?

I was wondering about this, too! I mean, it's what we've been saying all along--are you jut gonna show up with a bunch of homicidal maniacs on your tail and expect these people to welcome you with open arms? And even if there's nothing there, do you have no backup plan, for, you know, what you're going to do if the homicidal maniacs follow you to your new home? 'Cause if not, I've gotta think you're just not gonna last very long...

I can't tell what city that used to be, but it is very "used to be,"

Pretty sure that's the temple of Aurora, which was in a drawing earlier in the episode.
